In search of our mothers

This web site is the result of a mystery. My grandmother's mother died when she was nine years old. Her lasting memory was of her mother's hair color -- red. When my sister came along, she had red hair, the only one in our extended family. My grandmother said that it was exactly like her mother's hair. A complete lineage was available for her father, A R Garrett, but several generations later, no one knew who her mother was beyond a name.
Concerning genealogy, I've always said, "The only way you know who your father is, is because your mother said so!" I wanted to find Mary Catherine Argo Garrett, my great-grandmother. Thanks to my first genealogy class many years ago, lots of work, and some luck, I now know who our mothers were.
In addition, I've found out who our ancestors were, where they lived, and why they moved on. I've found wonderful stories of courage and fortitude. These were strong people trying to make a living and support a family. Most of them were farmers. Fortunately, they kept good records in family Bibles. Someone in each generation seemed to understand the importance of passing on the family history.
Now it is my turn. This web site is dedicated to my grandmother, Clytie Garrett Lee in honor of all our ancestors. |
